On Friday January 15, 2021, Bill Henwood, our beloved Director of Ministry and founding member, passed away at age 89 at home in South Carolina with his wife Karen by his side.

Bill was born in Half Way Tree, Jamaica. Educated as a mechanical engineer, Bill immigrated to North America to live and work in both Canada and the US.  Bill was ordained as a Deacon in the Episcopal Church in 1989.  As Deacon, Bill served congregations in Arizona, Colorado and South Carolina.

Bill's joy of life and love of God was infectious whether it be proclaiming the Gospel, being "Opa" to his family, or just being "Bill" to the rest of us.

Bill's gift of service and love for his homeland brought he and Karen back to Jamaica annually to serve the very poorest communities in St Elizabeth parish (where he spent his childhood) through medical and dental mission trips.  Beginning in 2004, Bill and Karen served with Medical Ministries International (MMI).  In 2014, Bill and a few fellow MMI mission team members formed Jamaica Missions USA (JMUSA) to ensure continuity of care to the communities of St Elizabeth. Bill, a founding Board Member, also served as Worship Director.   JMUSA continues to grow today in thanks to Bill's vision, direction, and the countless number of volunteers he recruited who caught his passion.

Bill had a profound impact on the lives of so many people.  He will be deeply missed.  Our hearts are full of sadness, but more so of gratitude and thankfulness to have known Bill and shared in his journey. We rejoice in knowing he is with his Savior.

Rest in Peace, dear friend.

For those who desire, Bill's family has requested memorial donations be made to Jamaica Missions USA in support of the mission he so loved.   To make a donation in memory of Bill, please click here.
